This year’s keynote speaker is Steve Jerve, News Channel 8’s Chief Meteorologist, to discuss pitching tactics for newsrooms and branding-strategies that WFLA utilizes to position itself as Tampa Bay’s storm coverage leader.

Tickets are $40 for students; $50 for PRSA members, $60 for non-members and $350 for a table of eight.

Keynote Speaker: Steve Jerve

The Storm Team’s Chief Meteorologist Steve Jerve provides your workday with weather forecasts on News Channel 8’s 5, 5:30, 6 and 11pm newscasts.

At his first job at KAAL-TV in Austin, Minnesota, Steve worked as a weather anchor, reporter, photographer and weekend anchor. He also extended his talents as a producer and editor. His next move was to WJTV in Jackson, Mississippi where he became the main weather anchor. Steve then moved to WFTV in Orlando and took over as the 5pm weather anchor. He was able to experience first hand the power of tropical storms while covering Hurricane Andrew in 1992. Steve has also covered hurricanes Gilbert and Hugo.

He then went to KDNL in St. Louis as chief meteorologist. He won an Emmy Award there in 1996 for Weathercasting in the Mid America region.

Steve is a full member of the American Meteorological Society and has earned the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) designation.

In his spare time, Steve could be found on a plane, traveling to all corners of the globe. His passions include World War II history, cars, airplanes, movies and scienc

Online registration will close at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, October 17. On-site registration will close promptly at 11:45 a.m. The only form of payment accepted at the door is a check made payable to PRSA Tampa Bay. No cash or credit cards please.

Parking, Directions and Access to The Tampa Club

Members and guests may park in the garage located on Tampa Street, connected to Bank of America building via skybridge. Parking is $2. Please bring parking ticket to club where it will be stamped to receive our preferred parking rate.

From I-275 South: Take Exit 45-A (Downtown East/West). Follow signs for Downtown West/Ashley Drive. Stay on Ashley until Jackson Street, one block after Kennedy/Ashley intersection. Turn left on Jackson and move to far-right lane. Turn right on Tampa Street. Go half block and take first possible right into driveway. Turn right again into Bank of America parking garage. Follow signs for Visitor Parking. Drive up spiral to Level 3 and take parking ticket at gate. Park in any unreserved space on Level 6 or above. Take parking garage elevator to Level 3/skybridge. Walk across skybridge to Bank of America building. Go to elevator bank marked “32-41.” Take elevator to 41st floor/Tampa Club entrance.

From I-275 North: Take Exit 44 (Downtown West/ Ashley Drive). Stay on Ashley Drive and follow directions above.

From Crosstown/Lee Roy Selmon Expressway: From Brandon, take Exit 8 to Kennedy Boulevard. Take left on Tampa Street and follow directions above.

From Gandy: Take Exit 6-A (Downtown West). Merge onto Florida Avenue and move to left lane. Turn left on Kennedy Boulevard. Turn left on Tampa Street and move into far-right lane. Follow directions above.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations received by noon ET on Wednesday, October 18, will be accepted without penalty. Regarding cancellations made after that date, registrations paid in advance will not be refunded, and those who registered by did not pay will be invoiced the full registration amount.
