How to Manage 15,000 Journalists at the Republican National Convention

April 13, 2012
11:30 AM - 1:00 PM

Tampa Bay Times Forum - Firestick Grill
401 Channelside Drive
Tampa, FL 33602

Before the presidential election in November, the Republican National Convention will take the Tampa Bay area by storm the week of Aug. 27. In the middle of what will be a full-on media tempest is James Davis, director of communications for the convention.

He has been preparing since October to oversee communications for the massive weeklong event, expected to draw 45,000 attendees and 15,000 journalists – a number, according to the RNC, that makes its convention, outside of the Olympic Games, the world’s single largest media event (hosting triple the number of journalists who cover the Super Bowl). By any measure, this will be the media event of the year, and possibly decade, in the Tampa Bay area.

A well-respected political PR veteran, James served as associate director of communications at the 2008 RNC in St. Paul and as deputy director of media affairs at the Republican National Committee. Before the 2012 media and public frenzy gets going full steam, James will provide insight on heading up communications for such an enormous, high-profile event.

Following lunch, James will point out key areas of the Tampa Bay Times Forum, where the RNC will be held. Be sure to join us for insight on what will be the media event of the year in Tampa Bay!
