Stakeholder Engagement: How Imagine Clearwater Got It Right With Public Outreach

June 20, 2018
4:00 PM - 5:30 PM

East Community Library at St. Petersburg College
2465 Drew St.
Clearwater, FL 33765

The City of Clearwater has a once in a lifetime opportunity to develop a transformative vision for its downtown waterfront, which is a beloved civic asset. To do so, planners determined early on to involve the community in every aspect of the project. The outcome -- Imagine Clearwater -- is a community vision for the Downtown Clearwater waterfront.

Find out how Imagine Clearwater won the support of the community through creative outreach strategies in this FREE program co-presented by PRSA Tampa Bay and the Suncoast section of the American Planning Association Florida. This program is FREE, but registration is appreciated.

You will learn how:

  • Strong public outreach tactics by the City of Clearwater throughout the planning process were instrumental to success
  • Community involvement proved critical to winning approval by 76% of Clearwater voters in the referendum required for changes to Coachman Park as part of the new waterfront plan
  • City officials are managing the challenges involved in moving from vision to implementation

  • Joelle Castelli, Public Communications Director, City of Clearwater
  • Diane Jones, APR, President, DJ Public Relations
  • Gina Clayton, Assistant Planning and Development Director, City of Clearwater
