Tampa Bay & Company EVP Steve Hayes opens up the playbook on his unique talents of persuasion. Join us Thursday, November 3 to hear what it's like pitching on the really big national media stage. Experience the wins - and losses - as Steve brings his unique brand of persuasive skills to the Tampa Marriott Westshore, for a morning breakfast program that’s sure to open new paths to that perfect pitch.

From pirates to politics, you’ll learn how Tampa Bay & Co. successfully recruits top shelf national events that showcase our area and grabs headlines across the country and around the world; putting Tampa Bay on the nation's flat screen can be traced back to the work of Steve Hayes and his role at Tampa Bay and Company.

The program includes breakfast with Steve Hayes, executive vice president of Tampa Bay & Company. Following the program PRSA Tampa Bay will announce the results of the 2012 election and 2011 awards.

About Steve Hayes

Steve HayesAs executive vice president of Tampa Bay & Company, Steve is responsible for assisting the CEO in the development of all strategic priorities, as well as working with the leadership team for achieving the Tampa Bay & Company’s mission of "economic development through tourism."

He started in the tourism industry in 1983 as an intern at the Peoria Area Convention & Visitors Bureau. He joined Tampa Bay & Company in 1987 as a tourism sales manager and was promoted to vice president of tourism marketing in 1994. Major achievements while in Tampa include:

  • Recognized by Advertising Age as one of the “Top 100 Marketers” in 1999 for the development of an innovative marketing approach for generating summer leisure travel business.
  • Directed destination marketing efforts to partner with AAA Auto Club South on a year-long advertising program that increased hotel revenue by 67% over the previous year and hotel room nights by 48%.
  • Directed efforts in the development of a destination ad campaign that received seven advertising awards from the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International, including “Best Advertising Campaign for a Convention and Visitors Bureau.”

Steve has served in various capacities with several travel industry associations including:

  • National Tour Association - Board of Directors, Marketing Committee, DMO Council, Member Value Council, Convention Task Force and International Relations Committee
  • Destination Marketing Association International - Research, Education and Tourism Committees, Compensation Task Force and the Performance Measurement Team
  • Visit Florida - Sales (chair), Marketing Council, Multi-Cultural and Government Relations committees
  • SKÅL International (Tampa Bay Chapter), as a board member and president
  • Hillsborough County Hotel/Motel Association Board of Directors

Steve has also been involved in several local organizations including: Sales & Marketing Executives International, Public Transportation Commission Advisory Committee, Tampa Museum of Art Marketing Committee, Ybor City Development Corporation Marketing Committee, Tampa International Airport’s Route Development Task Force, Tampa’s Downtown Partnership Signage Steering Committee, Valrico Soccer Club and Grace Community Methodist Church. In addition, Steve is a 2000 graduate of Leadership Tampa.
